Nicknamed the "city of 100 trades" Birmingham is known as one of the most important industrial hubs in Britain, with many of the nation's technological advancements – such as the steam engine, having been being born out of the "Black Country."
As well as an important Industrial hub, manufacturing has played a big part in Birmingham's growth with an extremely diverse range of products. Today, 40% of the UK's Jewellery comes from the Hockley area of the city, known as the jewellery quarter.
