Kingdom proudly work alongside Wincanton to provide best-in-class recruitment and security solutions.

Since the beginning of the contract, we have implemented various improvement actions and procedures, that have developed their previous security and recruitment measures.

Wincanton is the UK's largest British supply chain solutions company.

They provide business critical services including storage, handling and distribution, high volume eFulfilment, retailer ‘dark stores’, two-person home delivery, fleet and transport management and network optimisation, for many of the UK’s best-known companies.

At Kingdom, we are proud to support Wincanton with our industry leading security and recruitment services.

Throughout 2021, Wincanton faced a national shortage of LGV 1 drivers.

To overcome this challenge, Kingdom Recruitment utilised our resourcing centre at head office, to recruit and place both drivers and warehouse staff into a number of distribution centres nationally.

We placed sponsored and featured job advertisements across all leading job boards and on social media. This included detailed job descriptions, highlighting the positive culture and working environment. Application response times were also regularly and quickly monitored to ensure we secured the candidate.

In recognition of our support, Kingdom Recruitment were asked to supply Wincanton Heinz in Wigan and have now been asked to supply the second Heinz site on the same industrial estate.

As well as recruitment, we also support Wincanton with security services on an ongoing basis. This includes Team Leaders and Distribution Security Officers to keep assets secure, as well as mobile patrols and response.

When Kingdom were awarded the contract, the average Service Level Agreement (SLA) score was rated ‘Amber’, which meant immediate improvement was needed. So, we introduced our own app to assess areas of weakness.

The app allowed us to introduce detailed improvement plans, including actions for all key stakeholders to ensure success.

By introducing our app, we have also made a dramatic improvement to the national average SLA score. Upon award of the contract, only 25% of Wincanton’s national sites had a ‘green’ SLA. Thanks to Kingdom’s improvement actions, the average SLA score for the national contract is 99%.

Over time and thanks to the development of the contract, we also found the Wincanton assignment instructions were no longer fit for purpose. Assignment instructions are a reference manual containing information which is needed for Security Officers to carry out their duties effectively.

So, we significantly enhanced assignment instructions from a basic level to a more detailed comprehensive level.

They now comprehensively cover all of the day-to-day processes that an officer would encounter on their daily duties. We brought the assignment instructions to life through use of site-specific imagery – instead of using generic images, photographs of each site were used, enhancing understanding for our colleagues.

Our updated assignment instructions for Wincanton have led to a rise in productivity, thanks to the efficiencies and updated process included within. Since creation, these AIs have been used as a blueprint for other Kingdom contracts to additionally update their AIs to a more current, effective format.

Following an update to our Assignment Instructions, all colleagues were required to be retrained, so we rolled out a full training programme to re-train all officers on daily duties.

In addition to this, we used the revised AIs as an opportunity to upskill our officers and enrol them on development courses, such as Functional Skills or Customer Service training.

The Kingdom team are regularly praised for the calibre of officers Kingdom provide to the site. One example is provided below, where one of our colleagues was directly praised by a Wincanton stakeholder, resulting in him receiving a commendation.

“Steve witnessed a situation taking place and immediately responded in a professional manner, calling for first aid and additional support. Steve then gave his assistance in supporting the involved person until first aid and the emergency service could attend. Steve acted in a very professional manner during the whole incident, remaining calm and always focused. Please accept our thanks and gratitude.”
