The city of Bath, Somerset, in the west of England was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. First established by the Romans, the hot springs that run under the city were used as bathing complexes by the Romans and later by the Georgians. Architecturally, the city is uniquely different to many other UK cities in that it retains both its Roman and Georgian period architecture. Today, Bath has two universities and is a hub for the service and communication industries.
