Stronger legal protection for security workers required

At Kingdom, we are backing a new petition calling for extra legislative protection for security workers across the UK.

About the cause

At Kingdom, our CARE values inform everything we do. The wellbeing of our Kingdom colleagues and the wider community take priority across all our services.

That’s why we are backing a new petition calling for extra legislative protection for security workers across the country.

Supported by the Security Industry Federation and the S12, the aim is to lobby for legislative change so that assaulting a security worker becomes a standalone aggravated criminal offence, aligned with the protections afforded to other emergency workers.

Why we're backing it

“The petition calls for fairness, safety and recognition. As crimes against people and property becomes increasingly brazen, security officers are on the frontline in the fight against everyday crime. They are protecting others every day, and many face serious verbal and physical abuse from members of the public – they undoubtedly deserve the same legal protections as other frontline professionals.”

It’s super quick and easy to sign the petition. All you need to do is click on the link and enter your name, email address and postcode. Please encourage other people that you know to sign too.

Sign and share the petition here

Why this matters:

•    At 10,000 signatures, the Government must formally respond
•    At 100,000 signatures, the petition will be considered for debate in Parliament
•    Current legislation, including the Assaults on Emergency Workers Act 2018, does not explicitly protect private security workers, despite the increasing risks they face

Together, we can amplify this message and push for the protection our security officers deserve.
