Women in Security - Lynne Douglas, Contract Manager at Kingdom Security

The security industry continues to grow and evolve, with more women stepping into key roles across the sector. At Kingdom Security, we’re committed to recognising the individuals who are helping shape that progress.

In this blog, we’re sharing the story of Lynne Douglas, one of our Contract Managers. Lynne reflects on her career journey, the challenges she’s faced, and the achievements she’s most proud of. Her experience offers valuable insight into what it means to lead with professionalism, resilience and purpose in the security field.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the security industry?

I was drawn to the security industry by the opportunity to make a real, visible difference in people’s safety and wellbeing. There’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing your presence can bring reassurance and structure to challenging or high-pressure environments. I’ve always had a strong sense of responsibility and calm under pressure, so the role felt like a natural fit.

Have you faced any challenges or misconceptions as a woman in this field and how have you navigated them?

Yes—like many women in security, I’ve encountered assumptions about my capability or authority, especially early on. Whether it was being overlooked for more physically demanding tasks or not being taken seriously in decision-making roles, I had to prove myself consistently. I learned early on to remain professional, knowledgeable, and assertive. I didn’t try to “prove” myself by being louder—I proved myself by being better prepared and more reliable. Over time, I’ve seen a shift in perception, and I’ve also worked to advocate for other women coming into the field.

What achievement in your security career are you most proud of and why?

One of the achievements I’m most proud of is stepping into a leadership role and helping shape standards for both clients and officers. Being trusted to manage teams, resolve conflicts, and implement improvements across multiple sites showed that my work was valued not just for presence, but for strategy and outcomes. That kind of trust takes time to earn, and knowing I’ve built that credibility is something I hold with pride.

Who has supported or mentored you on your journey and what impact did that have?

While I haven't had one individual mentor, I've benefited from being part of teams and environments that valued hard work and fairness. Along the way, I've learned from peers, managers, and the challenges themselves. That collective experience helped shape my approach and gave me the confidence to progress and support others throughout their career progression.

What advice would you give to other women considering a career in security?

Be confident in what you bring to the table. Your communication skills, emotional intelligence, attention to detail, and calmness under pressure are invaluable assets. Don’t let outdated perceptions define your path—show up, stay professional, keep learning, and speak up when something isn’t right. There is space for you here, and you can make a real impact.

How do you think the industry can better support and empower women moving forward?

By continuing to challenge stereotypes and making progression opportunities more accessible. We need to see more women in senior roles, and that starts with creating pathways for development, ensuring fair treatment, and promoting inclusive workplace cultures. More visibility, support networks, and flexible working options would go a long way in retaining and empowering women across all levels of the industry.

Lynne’s experience highlights the importance of visibility, support, and opportunity for women in security. Her approach to leadership and her commitment to raising standards across the board reflect the values we aim to uphold at Kingdom Security.
