Birmingham, in the heart of the West Midlands is the second largest city outside of London.

A key part of the industrial revolution, today it boasts an economy worth £90 Billion, following on just behind London as the UK's most profitable city.

Nicknamed the "city of 100 trades" Birmingham is known as one of the most important industrial hubs in Britain, with many of the nation's technological advancements – such as the steam engine, having been being born out of the "Black Country."

As well as an important Industrial hub, manufacturing has played a big part in Birmingham's growth with an extremely diverse range of products. Today, 40% of the UK's Jewellery comes from the Hockley area of the city, known as the jewellery quarter.

With such large growth in population and industry, crime was bound to rise and Birmingham has one of the highest crime rates outside of the capital.
